Jeperjek at a glance

Jeperjek lies in the hills southwest of Boštanj, in the Municipality of Sevnica. Administratively, it is an official naselje—a settlement—within the local community of Tržišče.
At around 424 metres above sea level, Jeperjek had 49 residents in Slovenia’s 2025 statistics, spread across 1.2 km². It feels more like a collection of farms and homes along local roads than a compact village centre.

A name with a long history
First recorded in 1425
Six centuries
in one name
The name appears in historical records as Weppriach (1425) and Vepriach (1467), then Jepernik (1744), before the present-day Jeperjek was recorded in the Franciscan cadastre in 1825.
Linguist Silvo Torkar traces the place name to the old Slavic word *veprь, meaning “wild boar”, combined with a suffix referring to inhabitants. The name itself preserves a small piece of landscape history.

The immediate surroundings are deeply rural. For museums, restaurants and the region’s main attractions, head towards Tržišče, Sevnica and the surrounding hills.
Culture & views
Sevnica Castle
A castle above the Sava with a park, exhibitions, a historic wine cellar and views across the town. Check opening hours and tour times before setting out.

An archaeological park above Vranje with remains of a late Roman and early Christian settlement. The walk and the views are part of the experience.
Lisca
Sevnica’s landmark mountain is popular with hikers and offers wide panoramas on a clear day. Choose a route suited to the weather and your fitness.
Tržišče
The nearby village centre has a church, railway station and local amenities. It sits on the regional line connecting Sevnica and Trebnje.
Vineyard hills
Drive or walk through the small-scale wine landscape around Malkovec and the Mirna Valley. Tastings with local winemakers are usually by appointment.

Flavours & traditions
At the table in Dolenjska and Posavje
The rhythm of
vine and season.
Jeperjek does not have a documented tourist cuisine of its own. What you taste and celebrate here belongs to the wider food and wine culture of Dolenjska and Posavje.
Cviček & modra frankinja
Cviček is Dolenjska’s light, fresh speciality. Around Sevnica, modra frankinja (Blaufränkisch) also plays a leading role. Always contact small producers in advance before visiting.
Simple and generous
Look for štruklji, buckwheat dishes, stews, smoked meat and homemade potica. Local tables often follow whatever the garden, orchard and season provide.
Trgatev & martinovanje
The grape harvest brings neighbours and families together. Around St Martin’s Day on 11 November, the change from must into wine is celebrated during martinovanje.
Village festivities & walks
Church holidays, volunteer fire brigade festivities and organised walks are important meeting points in rural communities. Jeperjek also lies on a local pilgrimage walk between Tržišče and Studenec.

Getting here
By car
A car is the most practical option. Approach Jeperjek via Tržišče or Boštanj and expect narrow, winding local roads in hilly terrain. Drive slowly and leave room for farm traffic.
By train and taxi
Tržišče has a station on the regional Sevnica–Trebnje line. For the final stretch to Jeperjek, arrange a taxi or lift in advance—or be prepared for a substantial walk. Always check the current timetable.
On foot or by bicycle
The hill roads are beautiful but steep in places and do not always have a separate pavement or cycle lane. Bring water, wear visible clothing and download your route beforehand.
Good to know
Jeperjek is not a developed tourist destination: do not expect a visitor centre, public toilets or regular food service in the settlement itself. Head to Tržišče, Boštanj or Sevnica for amenities.
